About IP Address Information Lookup

IP Address Information Lookup returns approximate location, network, and ASN details for a public IPv4 or IPv6 address. It is a focused lookup tool for understanding how an address is registered or broadly geolocated.

An IP result describes the public exit point observed by a service, not a person's exact identity or physical location. VPNs, proxies, carrier-grade NAT, privacy extensions, load balancing, and geolocation database updates can all change or limit what the result means.

How to use this developer tool

  1. Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address when you need to inspect its approximate metadata.
  2. Review the country, subdivision, city, timezone, network, ASN, and organization fields as approximate metadata.
  3. Check the address type before interpreting the result. Private, loopback, link-local, multicast, and unspecified addresses do not have ordinary public geolocation.
  4. Use the result as a troubleshooting clue and confirm important findings with provider records, router settings, application logs, or the relevant VPN documentation.

Privacy and data handling

Does IP geolocation show my exact address?

No. IP geolocation is an approximate estimate of a network exit or registered address range. It can be wrong or outdated, especially for VPNs, mobile networks, cloud providers, and carrier-grade NAT.

Can I look up a private IP address?

The tool can identify private or reserved address ranges, but those addresses do not map to a normal public provider or geographic location.

Why can two services show different locations?

Providers use different databases, update schedules, and definitions of an address's network location. Compare the network and ASN fields and treat the city-level result as approximate.
